BACOLOD CITY -- As part of its 80th anniversary celebration, the City of Bacolod will hold a festival highlighting its famous chicken inasal (grilled chicken) this coming May.
Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of City Council Committee on Tourism, said the Manokan Country Inasal Festival will be positioned to become a big festivity like the Chinese New Year’s BacoLaodiat or eventually like the MassKara.
It is seen to further boost the city’s economic growth and tourism industry, she added.
Ang’s committee has proposed a budget of PHP1 million for the staging of the festival.
Ang said she has conducted a public hearing to amend some provisions of City Ordinance No. 482, Series of 2009, known as the “Manokan Country Inasal Festival”.
She said the existing ordinance does state the exact date of the festival thus, it has been scheduled for the month of May.
It’s summer and there will be steady supply of chicken, she added.
The expanded coverage area of the festival will also be included in the amendments since Section 2 provides that “the festival shall have the exclusive coverage from the corner of Rizal-Ferrero Streets encompassing the whole Manokan Country area up to the corner of Burgos-Ferrero Streets” only.
Ang said with the participation of chicken vendors, Bacolod will again attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest barbecue grill.
Bacolod first attempted to set a record for the world’s longest barbecue grill in 2009.
