Cop on Awol, pal nabbed for gun, drugs in Batangas

CAMP MALVAR, Batangas City — A 35-year-old policeman, who has been declared “absent without leave,” or AWOL, and a cohort were arrested by authorities for illegal drug trade in Barangay Libjo, this city, provincial police public information officer, Chief Inspector Hazel P. Luma-ang Suarez said Tuesday.

Acting Batangas police provincial director, Senior Supt. Alden Bacarra Delvo, identified the drug suspects as Kristofferson Driz Reyes, alias “Kris,” who has been in inactive status for AWOL and Henry Hernandez Banaira alias “Henry”, 52.

Delvo said the two suspects, both residents of Poblacion East, Taysan, Batangas, are newly identified drug personalities of the Batangas City police.

He said the policeman and his cohort were nabbed by joint elements of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) led by Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Richard C. Ante and PO2 Rudy C. Anoñuevo Jr. of the Batangas City Police Station under orders by the city acting police chief Supt. Wildemar T. Tiu and the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) led by Chief Insp. Apolinario I. Lunar.

The arresting team brought the two suspects at around 4:40 p.m. Monday to Barangay Libjo outpost, Batangas City to record the incident before taking the suspects to the police station.

During the anti-illegal drug operation, the police team recovered two big heat sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, colored rose gold mobile phone containing information on the drug transaction, one 9mm Taurus pistol with serial number TZC02060 and a magazine with 15 live bullets placed inside the black sling bag.

Police case officer PO2 Marco C. Eje said the inventory of the recovered evidence was witnessed by Barangay Kagawad Herman De Castro while the pieces of evidence were later brought to the Batangas Provincial Crime Laboratory Office (BPCLO) for ballistic examination.

He said the arrested suspects were also underwent drug testing and physical examination at the Batangas Medical Center.

They are now detained at the Batangay City police station jail.

Police are now preparing charges against the suspects for violation of Section 5, Article II pertaining to involvement in the delivery of the hard drugs under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and for another violation of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
