Drug suspect killed in shoot out with cops in Calamba

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A drug suspect was killed while his cohort and a police enforcer were wounded during a firefight at the outskirt of Barangay Pansol here during an operation conducted by this city’s Drug Enforcement Team and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday afternoon.

In his report to Laguna police acting provincial director Senior Supt. Dindo R. Reyes on Tuesday, Calamba City police chief, Supt. Reynaldo Mendieta Maclang identified the fatality as Cris Pantaleon, alias ‘Ompong’, 26, a Pansol resident, who was killed after trading shots with the drug buy-bust operatives.

Pantaleon’s cohort, Harrizon San Valentin Luna, 31, a Barangay Pansol pool agent, was wounded and later arrested at the Calamba Medical Center where he sought treatment.

Also wounded during the encounter was PO1 Randolf Hizon who was hit at the lower part of his body when the two suspects shot at the enforcement team.

Maclang said the Drug Enforcement Team, led by SPO2 Lorenzo D. Colinares, conducted the buy-bust operation at the Sitio 6 in Barangay Pansol.

Pantaleon, listed in the Drug Information Watch List of the city police station, was killed during the shootout while cohort Luna managed to escape and sought help from a Barangay Public Safety and Order (BPSO) personnel to take him to Calamba Medical Center (CMC) for treatment.

Meanwhile, the SOCO team led by Police Chief Inspector Shylla Cahilig processed the encounter site and recovered a caliber 9-mm pistol with 13 live ammunition; two heat- sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu; and several bills.

Pantaleon’s body was brought to the Green Lawn Funeral Homes for autopsy while the recovered pieces of evidence were submitted to the PNP Regional Crime Laboratory Office in Camp Vicente Lim here for examination. (PNA)
