DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan -- The National Food Authority (NFA) in Western Pangasinan has assured sufficient supply of rice in the province despite the temporary suspension of the distribution of rice to their accredited retailers.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Chona Maramba, officer-in-charge at the office of the Assistant Provincial Manager of NFA-Western Pangasinan, said the temporary suspension of the distribution of NFA rice will not have much effect as there are sufficient supplies of commercial rice in the market.

Maramba said there are 701 bags of rice left as reserve in NFA-Western Pangasinan, while 600 bags are allocated for the supplementary feeding programs of the local government units.

“Some 100, 000 bags were allocated for western Pangasinan this year and we are just waiting for the supply from the NFA central office,” she said.

NFA price monitoring showed that commercial rice ranges from PHP36 to PHP39 per kilo.

“This has not changed so far, so we can say there is enough supply,” she added.

Maramba said Pangasinan farmers produce at least one million bags of rice a year. (PNA)
