CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet -- A former barangay chief in Abra voluntarily surrendered his firearm to the authorities this week in support of police efforts to ensure the safety of residents in the community.

Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) Regional Director, Chief Superintendent Edward Carranza, said Nixon Belmes, former village chief of Barangay Callao, Villaviciosa, Abra, surrendered one caliber .38 revolver with serial number 775344 during a "barangay visitation activity" of the regional police on March 21.

The surrendered firearm is now under the custody of Villaviciosa Municipal Police Station (MPS) for proper documentation before it is turned over to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Office for ballistic examination.

Community-based policemen always urge residents to support the maintenance of peace and order in the communities and give updates on the peace situation in Barangay Callao.

As part of the engagement activity, the local police talk to residents on the campaign against loose firearms. (PNA)
