ILOILO CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement its “Oplan Lakbay Alalay” program in preparation for the observance of the Holy Week starting March 26.

DPWH Assistant Regional Director Engineer Al Fruto on Friday said the plan has already been in place because it also works for other similar events. Yet, they are particular with the Holy Week due to “longer holidays”.

He said they will be setting up “Lakbay Alalay” centers in strategic areas manned by their personnel even after the Holy Week to prevent any untoward incident and ensure that concerns of motorists will be immediately addressed.

“Our maintenance engineers were instructed already to clear, clean and no big excavation works within the period so as to maintain the smoother flow of traffic,” he said.

He added that there will be no work stoppage of major construction works. Only “typical excavation works” that can hamper the flow of traffic will be stopped.

A team based at the regional headquarters will also monitor the centers which are required to submit their situational reports every four hours. (PNA)
