TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Carmona Mayor Dahlia Loyola was cited as one of Cavite’s Outstanding Women Leaders during the province’s Women’s Month festivities held at the provincial gymnasium here on Friday.
Governor Jesus Crispin C. Remulla awarded the plaque of recognition for Loyola’s achievements in local governance and for her commitment to public service whose innovative leadership practices empowered public service, transparency and governance.
Loyola, a physician by profession, is known for her advocacy in providing comprehensive program for persons with disabilities (PWDs), especially children with special needs.
Under her leadership, Carmona has received various awards including the Presidential Award as the Most Child-Friendly Municipality in the Philippines given by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in Malacaǹang.
With her governance, the town was also conferred the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for three consecutive years for perfecting all the parameters set by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and as a Regional Hall of Fame and National Awardee of Manila Bayani Award in 2016, among others.
In her acceptance speech, Loyola admitted to having initial doubts to run for the mayoral post as she would likely be compared to her husband, then Mayor Roy M. Loyola, who now serves as Congressman of Cavite’s 5th District.
Drawing from every woman’s inherent ability to accept and adjust and perform multi-task duties, Loyola was inspired to serve her constituents and proved that women could achieve greatness in public service.
Loyola, who is current president of the Cavite’s Mayors League, also shared that greatness is achieved by leaving a mark that will effect positive change and inspire others to do the same.
She encouraged everyone to “continue to aspire to achieve beyond the norms of society that will make an impact to our family and to our community.”
The Provincial Government of Cavite gathered barangay health workers, solo parents, the province’s GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) and the provincial front line services on Friday for a day-filled with inspirational talks, livelihood seminars, pampering services in line with this year’s theme “We make change work for women.”
The celebration forms part of Remulla’s advocacy to constantly initiate programs to push for women’s welfare and equality as they are as capable to perform at par in diverse fields of interest.
In his inspirational message, Remulla shared that the special celebration of women is “something that is called for.”
Citing the history of women, not only in this country, but throughout the world, Remulla shared that human kind has gone a long way, made great strides to highlight the importance of women, and have occupied varied government positions, from Presidents, Senators, Governors, Mayors, among others.
“In Cavite alone, although the province is yet to experience having a female Governor, we have women leaders in the Cities of Bacoor and Tagaytay, the municipalities of Carmona, Magallanes and Tanza, and the list goes on,” he said.
He also noted that the provincial offices have more women in the forefront and credits his over-all achievements to the hard work and support of the women officials and workers in his office.
The celebration, however, is not about what women has achieved but the importance of women in our daily lives, especially to the core unit of society, our family, Remulla added.
The governor likens women to a rope that binds the family together describing “your importance cannot be underscored.”
During the event, 7th District Board Member and Co-chairperson of Cavite GFPS Reinalyn Varias led the ceremonial flying of pink and purple colored balloons which symbolize women’s freedom. (PNA)
