DPWH to set up motorist assistance center along Maharlika Highway

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna -- The Department of Public Works and Highways’ 3rd Engineering District here will set up a motorist assistance center at Kilometer 81 along the stretch of the Maharlika Highway portion in Barangay San Roque this city starting 8 a.m. on Holy Wednesday (March 28).

DPWH District Engineer Jovel G. Mendoza said Monday that the assistance center will assist travelers and motorists passing along the Maharlika Highway towards their respective destinations in the Calabarzon and Bicol Regions up to the Visayas areas in time for the observance of the Holy Week.

This is in line with the directive of DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar to assist commuters and motorists and monitor the road networks for their safe travel from March 28 until April 2 in the major national roads and highways.

He said that traffic volume is expected to peak on Holy Wednesday along the stretch of the Maharlika Highway due to an exodus of tourists, visitors, travelers and vacationers for the Lenten and summer season and on their return on April 2.

According to Mendoza, the DPWH Motorist Assistance Center team is composed of an automotive mechanic who could troubleshoot in case of any vehicle breakdown; emergency responders in collaboration with the San Pablo City search and rescue team and the Liga ng Mga Barangay (village league) for ambulances in case of any vehicular accident within the site.

He said that they have already coordinated with the Philippine Red Cross-San Pablo City chapter for the first aid services while the San Pablo City Barangay Communication Central, Kabalikat Civi Communications and SNEAKY Communications-Alaminos will be providing communication support services.
