BACOLOD CITY -- An esplanade is now being constructed adjacent to the Bacolod City Government Center to provide Bacoleños another place to enjoy and relax.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he sees the esplanade as an extension of the Government Center, and a version of the Iloilo City Esplanade but on a smaller scale.
The esplanade project starts from the Lupit Bridge along the Circumferential Road and runs towards the side of Bacolod Government Center.
An esplanade is a stretch of pavement designed for walking or driving along a river or sea.
The implementation of the project is being facilitated by Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya.
The Department of Public Works and Highways, the implementing agency, has allocated PHP40 million for the esplanade project seen to be completed in October, said Bacolod District Engineer Abraham Villareal.
The mayor said a memorandum of agreement will be formalized between the city government and the lot donor of the Bacolod Government Center to ensure that illegal settlers will not occupy the esplanade area.
Leonardia added that property giant Megaworld Corp. will also construct an esplanade in their development site across the Bacolod Government Center. (PNA)
