ILOILO CITY -- Each town in Iloilo province will soon be equipped with quick response (QR) code system that will provide tourists with essential information about the area.

Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin said PHP200,000 budget was allotted for the installation of these QR code systems.

The project will jumpstart on April 12, with the launching of the QR code system at the Casa Real (Old Provincial Capitol) in this city in line with the celebration of “Semana sang Iloilo.”

Marin said the QR code at the Casa Real will provide information about the rich history of the province, including the historical structure of the old Capitol.

He said it will have photos to feature significant people and destinations in the province.

Using android phone and other hi-tech phones, he said, people could scan the system to generate a lot of information.

After the launching, Marin said they will push through with the installation of QR code systems in the 42 towns and one component city of the province.

He said municipal tourism officers were given until April 6 to submit the necessary information that would be encoded in their respective QR code systems.

PTO has partnered with Smart Communications for the QR code system project in the province.

He said the QR code system will be installed in strategic areas of each town, like municipal hall where tourists could drop by when they are visiting the town.

“If they go to the different municipalities, the QR code will help them especially during weekends wherein if no one will entertain them, rest assured they could get information about where to go, how to get there,” he said.

Marin said the Sta. Barbara Church and Golf Course in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo currently are among the destinations that are already equipped with QR code system. (PNA)
