BAGUIO CITY -- Mayor Mauricio Domogan on Tuesday expressed his thanks to God for the peaceful, orderly and safe observance of the Holy Week in the city, even as thousands of visitors arrived for the annual Lenten break.
The mayor, however, lamented the negative publicity perpetuated against the city, which he blamed for the lower-than-expected tourist arrivals during this year’s Holy Week.
“There was not so much traffic. Only a few (tourists) arrived. Baka tumatalab mga negative publication in national dailies against our city (The negative publicity in national dailies about our city could be affecting the tourist arrivals),” Domogan said.
The city and its residents, he said, should continue to counter the claims that Baguio is “already a dead city”.
“Sa katotohanan, hindi naman totoo yan (In reality, there is no truth to that),” said Domogan.
The mayor noted that like other cities, Baguio has its own share of problems but there is no finding by the Environment and Management Bureau that “our environment has deteriorated”, like other areas in the country.
“I do not know why some try to promote themselves by painting negative items about other tourist destinations like Baguio,” he said. (PNA)
