GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen shot dead two alleged drug pushers here shortly after being released from police detention on Thursday night.
Senior Insp. Ananias Vasquez, chief of the city police station number 04, said Friday brothers Jerwin Anog alias Chiong, 40, and Anecito Anog alias Toto, 47, were on their way home aboard a tricycle when they were gunned down along Nuñez Street in Barangay San Isidro past 6 p.m.
He said the two had just been released from the station’s lockup after posting a bail bond of P240,000 each.
Citing accounts from witnesses, he said the victims were passing a dimly lit portion of Nuñez Street towards Barangay Mabuhay when two suspects riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle suddenly fired at them.
The two were declared dead upon arrival at a local hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds, he said.
The police official said the gunmen were already seen trailing the victims when their tricycle left the police station around minutes prior to the incident.
“We’re currently trying to establish the identities of the suspects and the possible motive of the incident,” Vasquez said.
He said among the angles that they were looking into was the involvement of the brothers in the illegal drug trade.
The Anog brothers were arrested in a police entrapment operation at their home in Purok 13 of Barangay Mabuhay last Good Friday.
Vasquez said the two were known drug pushers, specifically of metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, and included in the city police’s drug watch list.
“Based on our records, it was the third arrest (for Jerwin) for illegal drugs. So this could be related to his activities,” he added. (PNA)
