BACOLOD CITY -- A total of 37 associations and cooperatives of animal raisers in Negros Occidental have received hogs worth PHP928,000 under the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program.

Joselito Jaballa, animal dispersal coordinator of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), said they distributed 37 heads of swine -- 24 gilts and 13 boars -- to various recipients on Wednesday and Thursday, among them 32 associations and two cooperatives in Toboso and Cadiz City.

The Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade in Murcia received one head for its wellness farm in Barangay Minoyan.

Jaballa said the recipient-hog raisers are required to give back four piglets during the first and second impregnations.

With a one-year supplier warranty period, stocks can be replaced if not suited for breeding due to reproductive failure.

In case of animal death, the PVO will determine its cause and new stocks would be provided if no lapse is found on the part of the raiser.

Jaballa said the project seeks to boost local swine breeding, and piglets to be given back by the recipients will be dispersed to other association members. (PNA)
