DAVAO CITY – After it was cancelled due to alleged overprice issue in the previous administration, the government has put the modernization project of Sasa Port in Davao City for bidding this year under the Public-Private Partnership scheme.

This was revealed by Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) president Arturo Milan based on the information from the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) after making follow-up on the status of infrastructure projects in Davao.

The project has a total cost of P6.2 billion consisting of three phases, Milan said.

But, he said the first phase of the project will be bidded out first at PHP2 billion covering the expansion of the port area to 16 meters depth and expansion of the container yard.

"The bidding is for the actual construction," he said.

He said the Sasa Port Modernization Project was put on hold before because of some issues but it is pushing through at the cost of P6.2 billion.

"The increment is based on inflation the one that I was told," he said.

The Phase 2 of the project will be for the gantry and another set of equipment like an overhead crane that would reach a higher price at PHP3.6 billion and the remaining amount is for the improvement of the peripheral area. (Digna D. Banzon/PNA)
