BACOLOD CITY -- The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is appealing to Negrenses to cooperate with authorities during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls from April 14 to May 21.

The elections will be held on May 14 this year.

“The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be fair and neutral in implementing the law,” said Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, police provincial director, in a statement as of Friday.

He said police units will conduct intensified Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints in strategic areas and personnel will be deployed in areas of convergence for police visibility.

Mobile and beat patrols will also be conducted in various areas, he added.

Starting April 14, the Comelec will also enforce the gun ban, which prohibits the bearing, carrying and transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons.

The poll body will also disallow the engagement of services of security personnel or bodyguards.

Only regular members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies duly deputized in writing by the Comelec for election duty may be authorized to carry and possess firearms during the election period.

Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, the officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office, had earlier said the start of the election period will coincide with the kick-off of the 25th Panaad sa Negros Festival. (PNA)
