4 SK candidates in GenSan disqualified over age requirement

GENERAL SANTOS CITY--The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here directed four aspirants for Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) positions to withdraw their candidacies after exceeding the mandatory age requirement.

Bai Sagira Iskak, election assistant of the city Comelec office, said Friday the four candidates are deemed disqualified as their ages would fall beyond 24 years old by election day on May 14.

iskak said such findings were based on their assessment of the submitted copies of birth certificates during the filing of their certificates of candidacy (COC).

Based on election rules, she said candidates for SK positions are limited to those aged 18 to 24 years old.

Iskak said the names of the concerned candidates, which were running for SK chairs and councilors, were no longer included in the list of certified candidates that they posted in the polling areas starting Wednesday.

She said they also sent notices requiring them to file the withdrawal of their candidacies before the election day.

“They still need to file their withdrawal since we still have their applications. We need it to properly inform our law department,” she said an interview over Brigada News FM.

A total of 1,192 aspirants from the city’s 26 barangays have filed their COCs for the Barangay and SK elections.

In the Barangay level, some 80 incumbent and new candidates are running for chairperson while 639 are vying for councilor positions.

Some 85 candidates are running for SK chairs and 388 for councilors. (PNA)
