CEBU CITY -- Mayor Tomas Osmeña has warned Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) supporters running in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections not to take advantage of the distribution of financial assistance to senior citizens to be held on Saturday.

The mayor issued the warning during his regular press conference at City Hall on Friday after receiving reports that the faces of some candidates have supposedly been printed on envelopes to be used in the distribution of cash assistance.

Osmeña said he will cut ties with candidates he is supporting if they are caught politicking during Saturday’s distribution of assistance.

“I don’t want to see your faces or sample ballots there in the envelope,” the mayor said. “It’s not their money. It’s the money of the people of Cebu. I’m giving them fair warning. If any of my supporters put in stickers or whatever, I’ll cut them off.”

More than 60,000 senior citizens from Cebu City’s 80 barangays are set to receive their PHP1,000 financial assistance for the month of April from the city government on Saturday.

The distribution will be conducted at either the barangay halls or sports complexes from 8 a.m. to noon time.

Assistant City Administrator Annabeth Cuizon has ordered the different departments of City Hall to designate some personnel to assist the City Treasurer’s Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs in the distribution.

Senior citizens who will fail to show up can still claim their cash assistance at the City Treasurer’s Office in City Hall until May 15. (PNA)
