20K jobs up for grabs in Ilocos on Labor Day

 SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- A total of 20,500 local and overseas job vacancies will be offered to jobseekers on May 1 as part of the Labor Day celebration.

In a statement issued Friday, the Department of Labor and Employment 1 (Ilocos) invited 69 local and 17 overseas employers to make available 16,845 and 3,738 jobs, respectively, in three venues on Tuesday.

At the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center, 40 companies will join the job and business fair with 8,906 vacancies, while some 27 employers will be at the Robinsons Place in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte to offer 6,162 jobs.

In Pangasinan, the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in Lingayen will bring together at least 19 establishments with 5,515 jobs up for grabs.

As of Thursday, DOLE-1 said the local jobs with the most number of vacancies are the production crew, Police Office I Special Action Force (SAF), skilled construction workers, sales/stock clerk, cashier, customer service representative, security guard, bagger, service/dining crew, and steel man.

For overseas, the most number of vacancies are factory/production worker, female cleaner, restaurant worker, waiter/waitress/cook/steward, welder, asphalt worker, nurse, restaurant supervisor, technician, and family driver.

DOLE-1 further said the Department of Trade and Industry will conduct business counseling for those interested to put up their own business.

“Jobseekers and workers may also avail of one-stop employment and legal services to be provided by some government agencies,” it said.

This year’s Labor Day celebration will carry the theme, “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino: Dangal ng Lahi, Kabalikat sa Progresibong Pagbabago”, to underscore the important role of Filipino workers in the overall development framework of the present administration. (DOLE PR)
