BACOLOD CITY -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here has urged fresh graduates in Western Visayas to make use of government services in looking for jobs.
DOLE-6 Regional Director Johnson Cañete said they just need to be patient since there are many ways to seek employment.
They can visit the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and list their names in the Skills Registry System (SRS), the government’s job-matching portal, he said.
The Labor department facilitates employment through the SRS, in partnership with the cities and municipalities with operating PESOs.
“There are hard-to-fill positions, or those with few applicants. We need to update the list in every PESO,” Cañete said.
The PESO Employment Information System (PEIS), which is the enhanced version of the SRS, is a database of active manpower supply containing the profiles of all persons and employers registered under the National Skills Registration Program (NSRP).
It includes information on the qualifications and skills of the applicants and the job vacancies posted by the employers.
Cañete said the DOLE advises fresh graduates to be aware of the schedules of regionwide job fairs and those organized by local government units (LGUs).
He noted employment seekers can check the PhilJobNet, the government’s online job portal interconnected with the SRS of every LGU, for current in-demand jobs.
Moreover, Cañete said job seekers can also visit the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) branches and inquire about the Government Internship Program (GIP), which allows participants to work in government offices and receive 75 percent of the daily minimum wage.
He added TESDA also has Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) that funds short courses for graduates who want to acquire additional skills. (PNA)
