SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan -- The San Carlos City Police Station (SCCPS) is closely monitoring 14 candidates in the May 14 barangay elections, who are included in the city’s drug watchlist.

SCCPS officer-in-charge Police Supt. Ferdinand De Asis said in an interview on Wednesday that the candidates are also incumbent barangay officials in their respective barangays.

“They are incumbent barangay officials, three of them are vying for barangay chairman position, while the 11 are barangay kagawads in the upcoming elections,” he said.

De Asis confirmed that one of these candidates is included on the narco list released by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday.

He said all of the candidates here have signified their intent to undergo voluntary drug tests.

"Some are already done with their drug tests, but no results of the drug tests have been disclosed yet," he added.

Meanwhile, Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor of Pangasinan, said that despite being on the drug watchlist, the candidates are still eligible to run in public office, as the law only prohibits convicted individuals. (PNA)
