BAGUIO CITY -- A total of 544 job seekers were hired on the spot during the Cordillera job and business fair last May 1, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Cordillera said on Thursday

DOLE-CAR Information Officer Patrick Rillorta said there were 3,824 registered applicants who took their chances for employment in the event.

Rillorta said of the 544 hired, 497 were for local employment, while 47 were for overseas placement.

There were also 1,928 others, who were classified as “nearly hired applicants”, he added, who still need to give more requirements to the company.

The local labor official said 38 local employers and14 overseas manpower agencies participated in the Labor Day job fair.

Topping the list of jobs offered for local employment were call center agents, office-based teachers, sales agents, and corporate specialists.

Top overseas placements were for nurses, managers, supervisors, technicians, and waiters.

Top overseas destinations were United States, Germany, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Brunei.

Job fairs are among the program of the labor department to address the problem of job-skill mismatches. The department said job seekers could also visit its portal PhilJobNet online to look for jobs that suit their skills. (PNA)
