Korean nabbed at Clark airport for illegal drugs

CLARK, Pampanga -- A South Korean national was arrested by airport security personnel for possession of illegal drugs which he tried to slip through the security screening checkpoint of the Clark International Airport early morning of Thursday.

Alexander Cauguiran, Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) president and chief executive officer, identified the suspect as Kim Junho, 37, who was arrested by CIAC security officer Rogelio Aggari and Office of Transportation Security (OTS) staff Rommel Bernabe after suspicious items were found in the suspect's luggage at the initial security screening checkpoint.

The suspect was scheduled to take Jin Air flight bound for Incheon, South Korea when held at 12:30 a.m. Thursday. No other details were given about the suspect.

The airport security personnel discovered in the possession of the Korean national one sachet of dried marijuana and sachets of white substance suspected to be cocaine or “shabu”.

“Korean passengers abound at Clark all year round and while we have set in place measures to ensure their comfort and safety, let this be a warning to all that (our security staff) will be uncompromising in handling cases involving prohibited substances or contraband,” Cauguiran said.

Junho was brought to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Unit for questioning before being turned over to the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region III for further investigation. (PNA)
