DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental – Silliman University and telecommunication firm Smart Communications, Inc. have partnered to put up a digital billboard here to speed up dissemination of campus' information.

Mark Raygan Garcia, SU director for the Office of Information and Public, said Friday that the partnership between the university and Smart is “on a large digital/LED billboard to be put up on a strategic location along Hibbard Avenue where traffic is high.”

“This is the first project of its kind of Smart/PLDT with a university in the Visayas,” he said.

Garcia explained that “we thought of partnering with Smart on the digital billboard for us to have a central information board where we can display advisories, announcements and related materials that promote campus life.”

The digital billboard is also viewed as a “channel” where the university can touch base with the public and “put them in the loop on activities taking place on campus,” he said.

According to Garcia, the digital billboard is also part of the university’s plans to eventually minimize, if not eliminate, the use of streamers on campus and make available smaller digital boards in strategic locations on campus for organization- and college-related announcements.

Signing of a memorandum of agreement at the Board Room of the Administration Building of Silliman University will preceed the groundbreaking of the project, which is set on May 7, at the digital billboard’s site along Hibbard Avenue. (PNA)
