SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique --Antique’s child development centers will open during the May 14 polls to take care temporarily of the children while their parents cast their votes.

Emma Ruth Tolentino of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) said that Lawyer Roberto Salazar, Antique Commission on Elections (Comelec) Supervisor III, made this request.

This is to ensure that parents with day-care children would be able to participate in the May 14 synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, she said on Wednesday.

Data showed that 568 of the Antique’s 590 barangays have child development centers.

Some 662 child development workers were requested to be available in their centers on election day so they could help take care of the children who would be brought by their parents for temporary care.

“Our PSWDO chief is now disseminating this request of the Comelec,” she said.

Meanwhile, Salazar in an earlier interview said that there would also be fast lanes for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and heavily pregnant women on May 14.

“We, however, encouraged these voters to come early to their polling precincts,” he said. (PNA)
