BATAC CITY -- The state-run Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) and the Shinyo Energy Technology (SET) based in Shenzhen, China have agreed to promote exchange activities based on their academic, business, and technical needs.

In a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between MMSU and SET on May 5,  the two agencies would conduct technology demonstration and capacity building, energy management systems, smart systems for energy savings, exchange of academic and technical information, among others.

As an offshoot of these activities, Shinyo Energy director Tony Cheng conducted ocular inspection in the university campus and installed at least four units of light emitting diode (LED) lights at its twin gates. One LED unit costs USD200, or roughly PHP10,200.

“These lighting units are intended for city outdoor areas, but these can also be used in homes,” Cheng said.

Cheng said his company was willing to install LED lighting system within the vicinity of the 1,500-square-meter sunken garden for the 40th commencement exercises on June 8.

“After we have finished installing LED lights here in MMSU, you no longer need to worry on the high cost of electricity and the complex management and maintenance of the lighting system,” he added.

MMSU President Shirley Agrupis was happy with this partnership, noting the perceived benefits the university could derive from the project while implementing its energy-saving program.

In December last year, the Batac university received the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Award from the Department of Energy (DOE) in recognition of its initiatives that resulted in energy savings amounting to PHP3.1 million, which is equivalent to 412,243 kilowatt hours.

SET is founded by professional investment and energy saving technology experts in China and is producing intelligent and energy-efficient LED street lights with smart control system that can generate up to 70 percent average energy saving rate. The product could last up to 10 years.

The agency has long time experience in installing various energy-saving projects in China and is also supplying one-stop energy saving services to some Asian countries. (PNA)
