SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao on Friday conducted a spot inspection of Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital following complaints about its unsanitary condition.

Cadiao said she wanted to see for herself the condition of the provincial hospital.

She also talked to several patients during the inspection to get their feedback about the hospital’s environment.

“I am a little bit disappointed with what I saw in the hospital,” she said in a media interview after the inspection.

She said that she already instructed the hospital staff, particularly the janitors, to show concern for the welfare of their patients by providing them with a clean surrounding.

The governor also instructed Elias Matillano, hospital dormitory manager, to provide work assignments to janitors so they won’t depend on each other.

She also dismissed Matillano’s alibi that they lack supplies such as broom and bleach.

The governor also told Dr. Samuel T. Ton-ogan, provincial health officer I and the acting chief of hospital, to vacate the current space where he holds office so it could be converted into a pharmacy.

“I found the medicines scattered at the back and since Dr. Ton-ogan has really an office at the hospital so I told him to give way,”Cadiao said.

Cadiao hopes that next year the average 250-300 patients attended at the provincial hospital daily could be fully accommodated when the new six-storey building is completed.

The Department of Health has allotted PHP100 million for the new building.

The current provincial hospital categorized as Level 2 only has a 100-bed capacity.

Some of the hospital beds are placed on the hallway due to lack of rooms. (PNA)
