ILOILO CITY -- The family of 34-year-old Angelo Claveria wants to fast-track the repatriation of his skeletal remains, which were found in a septic tank of a water purifier plant in South Korea.
Claveria’s mother Angelita, accompanied by her daughters, Jeanette and Mayette, sought the help of Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. Thursday.
“I hope that the perpetrator will be arrested and justice will be given to my son,” she said.
Jeanette, younger sibling of Angelo who is also an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), came home this week from Bahrain after learning of what happened to her brother.
She expressed hope that the remains of her brother, who was a factory worker, would be repatriated soon because she is only on a two-week emergency leave to attend his burial.
Mayette, meanwhile, mentioned that they already received a communication from the Philippine Embassy in South Korea informing them that their mother “should execute a special power of attorney (SPA) authorizing someone (relative or friend) in Korea to be the attorney-in-fact or representative who would facilitate the repatriation.”
The email dated May 16 came from Glenn Corpin, attaché of the Philippine Embassy in South Korea.
“In case your mother can’t find someone in Korea to appoint, I am willing to be appointed as her attorney-in-fact in order to expedite the repatriation process,” Corpin stated in the e-mail.
"Mr. Glenn Corpin will facilitate in South Korea for the repatriation, so we do not need to travel there. The timeframe given by Mr. Glenn is two to three days,” Mayette added.
Meanwhile, Jeannete said they believe that the suspect is a co-worker of his brother and is also a Filipino.
She said that they have an idea about the identity of the suspect but she refused to provide further information.
In response, the governor said that he wrote a letter to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.
He said that he has sought the help of the two secretaries to expedite the repatriation of Claveria’s remains, and the investigation into his case.
