Village chief in Tarlac arrested for drugs

CAMP MAKABULOS, Tarlac City -- An outgoing barangay chairman, who lost in his re-election bid in the May 14 Barangay and SK elections, was arrested during a raid against illegal drugs in Barangay Lourdes, this city, Friday.

Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas, Tarlac police provincial director, said that police operatives arrested Edison Diaz, 41, former barangay chairman of Lourdes.

Posadas said Diaz is on the list of High Valued Target (HVT).

He said the suspect was arrested by Tarlac Drug Enforcement Unit, in coordination with Tarlac City police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-3 (PDEA3), in his residence at Purok 1, Barangay Lourdes.

“The raiding team was armed with search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court branch 64, Tarlac City,” Posadas said.

Recovered from the suspect were one medium size chocolate box containing suspected shabu; one piece medium knot-tied transparent plastic containing shabu; and two small sachets of shabu.

The suspect is presently detained at the Tarlac Provincial Police Office's Investigation unit while appropriate charges are being readied for filing in court. (PNA)
