MANILA – The top management of BDO Unibank, Inc. expressed optimism that its new credit card brand, Diners Club International, will complement its existing credit card brand partners.

On Thursday, BDO and Discover Financial Services formally launched Diners Club International as an addition to the local bank’s credit card portfolio.

“We ensure that all our brands complement each other, whereby, on your own you will feel that you’d want to have them all. A lot of people will say they’ll compete, it’s just another brand that will compete with the rest, but, no. We ensure that they complement each other,” BDO Senior Vice President and Consumer Lending Group Marketing Head Ma. Nannette Regala told reports on the sidelines of the launching.

Regala said there are clients of the bank who would like to have multiple credit card brands since they offer different perks. “It will be up to the consumers’ choice as to which brand or card they want to have,” she added.

Discover Senior Vice President and Global Business Development Head Joe Hurley cited Diners Club cardholders have the widest access to 800 airport lounges and worldwide Wi-Fi products, while providing travel privileges and benefits to its customers with Discover’s special relationship with its merchant partners.

Local cardholders will now have access to over 28 million merchants globally where Diners Club card is accepted, the executives said.

Moreover, BDO is launching two types of BDO Diners Club card -- the Diners Club International Credit Card mostly complementing the demands of millennial market, and the Diners Club Premier Credit Card for the high-end market.

The launching took place almost two years after the BDO acquired the rights of being the exclusive issuer of Diners Club cards in the country from Security Bank Corp in late 2016.

“With any acquisition of a new scheme, there are technical processes that we need to address and we need to assure those technical processes are done properly, so that the experience of the cardholder will be as smooth as possible,” said Regala. (PNA)
