TUMAUINI, Isabela -- At least 3,300 school children in Cagayan Valley Region would be ready for the June 4 opening of classes, as they received their bags and school supplies from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) this week.

The recipients belong to 19 schools with 2,170 children in Cagayan province, seven schools with 870 children in Isabela, and one school with 130 children in Nueva Vizcaya, NGCP-North Luzon public affairs and corporate communications manager Lilibeth Gaydowen said in an interview on Tuesday.

Gaydowen said the school supply-distribution program has been one of the NGCP's corporate initiative advocacies every school year dubbed “Gamit ni Bulilit” wherein the recipients are Grades 1 to 3 school children within schools hosting NGCP transmission facilities.

Most recipients are indigents who do not have the means to buy supplies, she said.

The initiative benefits some 135,000 pupil beneficiaries enrolled in 474 schools nationwide. Gaydowen said each recipient received a school bag, 10 pieces of notebooks and pencils.

“This is NGCP's way of expressing gratitude to host communities whom through the years have been supportive in protecting NGCP facilities,” she said. (PNA)
