BACOLOD CITY -- The two policemen in Negros Occidental wounded during a firearms search operation in Cauayan town last May 17 received financial assistance of PHP50,000 each.

The Negros Occidental police said the cash aid was given to Police Officer 3 Reynaldo Bauden Jr. and Police Officer 2 Rolando Algie Prieto in rites held on Monday at the provincial police headquarters inside the Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. here.

Bauden and Prieto, both personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company, got PHP30,000 each from the Regional Advisory Council for Police Transformation and Development (RACPTD).

Senior Police Officer 4 Edgar Allan de Guzman, regional executive senior police officer of Police Regional Office (PRO)-6, who handed the cash assistance to the beneficiaries, said the amount provided by the RACPTD came from the fund-raising activities of PRO-6 such as the Dalagan Suporta sa Kapulisan and Swim for a Cause.

The remaining PHP20,000 each came from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc.

Earlier, Bauden and Prieto also received Philippine National Police (PNP) Wounded Personnel Medal along with two of their colleagues who were slightly injured.

Thirty-four other policemen who were part of the Cauayan operation were given the PNP Medal of Merit.

The four policemen were among the 10 wounded during the serving of a search warrant to two persons at Hacienda Isabel Hilado located in Sitio Matab-ang, Barangay Masaling, which led to an hour-long gun battle. (PNA)
