SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The “Balik Eskwela Diskwento” in Antique province kicked off Wednesday with 14 establishments offering up to 20 percent discounts on school materials and uniforms.

Glen Fernando of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) office in Antique said that the annual activity prior to school opening is store-based, with participating establishments notifying the public of their offered discounts.

“This is the right time to buy the school supplies because the stores are offering 5 percent to 20 percent discounts on their selected items, such as on ballpens, paper and even on uniforms,” Fernando said.

He said the stores were earlier asked by the DTI to submit their specific discounted items and how much discount they could offer.

“Starting today, we will be monitoring the participating stores to know their sales generated,” Fernando said.

In a recent interview, Lynna Joy Cardinal, DTI-Antique information officer, said the 15 stores that participated in last year's Balik Eskwela Diskwento generated PHP1.4 million in sales from 10,777 buyers.

The “Balik Eskwela Diskwento” runs from May 30 to June 4. (PNA)
