ZAMBOANGA CITY--The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted a two-day “Balik Eskwela Diskwento” Caravan in this southern port city, which kicked off on Thursday, May 31, in the open field in front of the Ayala Barangay Hall.

DTI Provincial Director Ceferino Rubio said the Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan is the agency’s way of bringing basic and prime commodities to include school supplies, uniforms, bags and shoes at discounted prices easy and more accessible to low income earners in time for the opening of classes

Rubio said that a 10 percent discount, at the least, will be given by participating stores and distributors of basic necessities and prime commodities, as well as school supplies during the Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan.

Previously, the caravan is held at the historical Plaza Pershing located downtown but was later shifted to the barangays.

“By veering away from city centers and conducting it in far-flung barangays, it is hoped that the services the caravan bring will reach our intended beneficiaries, the low income earners,” Rubio said.

He called on the residents of the two barangays as well as nearby areas to take advantage of the opportunity to avail of discounted goods.

Aside from the Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan, the DTI provincial office also regularly holds Ramadan Diskwento Caravan, Fiesta Pilar Diskwento Caravan and Noche Buena Diskwento Caravan.

The second day of the caravan, on Friday, June 1, will be held at the Covered Court of Barangay Sangali, east of this city. (PNA)
