Village chief gunned down in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY -- An incumbent village chief was gunned down Thursday night by a still unidentified gunman in Barangay (village) Harigue, a remote village in Libon, Albay, report reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol said on Friday.

Myrna Armillo, married and incumbent chief of the village, was shot by an unidentified gunman while she was manning her store, according to Police Senior Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP Bicol spokesperson.

Armed with a .45 caliber handgun, the attacker approached and in close range shot the victim at about`8:15 p.m., said Calubaquib, quoting an initial report.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead by attending physician.

"Police investigators are still determining the identity of the attacker and the possible motive of the killing," she said. (PNA)
