BAGUIO CITY – A 16-year old teenager died in the hospital while receiving a medical treatment where he was rushed after an early morning dive in Burnham lake, the police reported on Friday.

Senior Supt. Ramil Saculles, city police director, said the victim suddenly dove in the murky Burnham lake past midnight Thursday. The victim, who was later identified through an ID picture with nametag is the brother of a police officer assigned at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- Cordillera.

Saculles said two eye witnesses who were at the park, noticed the victim running towards the side of the lake and suddenly dove in. They rushed to where the victim was and shouted at him to swim back to the dike of the lake but to no avail.

The witnesses told police that they saw the victim still floating on the water when it suddenly sunk. They sought assistance at the Tourist police office which was a few meters away from the lake.

SPO4 Miguel Gayaden ,who was on duty at the Tourist Police Unit, responded and tried to save the victim. He was able to pull the victim to the side of the lake and then rushed him to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for emergency medical assistance.

However, around 5:30 a.m. Friday, the station 7 of the BCPO was informed that the victim has passed away.

Saculles said that the police had put on hold the conduct of the investigation until after the burial upon the request of the family.

The police officer said that they have yet to see the medical report but said that the murky and muddy lake could have drowned the victim. (PNA)
