LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Agriculture (DA), together with the provincial government of Camarines Norte, conducted the first Agriculture and Fishery Council (AFC) volunteers’ day at the provincial compound in Daet town in Camarines Norte Thursday.

Emily Bordado, DA regional information officer chief, in a phone interview Friday, said over 200 participants composed of farmers/fisherfolks from various sectoral committee members attended the activity that aims to upgrade the status of the Agriculture & Fishery Council and allow volunteer members to actively participate.

“The event is part of the Farmers & Fisherfolk month celebration with the theme “True leaders don’t create followers; they create more leaders,” she said.

The AFC day will be celebrated yearly and soon to be institutionalized.

Sarah Guitierrez Cayona, executive director, Philippine Council for Agriculture & Fisheries (PCAF) who graced the event, enjoined everyone to help the DA to fast tract and implement the projects of the Department of Agriculture.

“During her speech, she mentioned that one way of extending support to farmers and fisher-folks is through credit”, Bordado added.

Topics presented were: DA Programs in Support to AFC, BFAR Program to Fisherfolks and Role of the AFCs.

A competition dubbed as “Tagisan ng Talino” was held in the afternoon which gave opportunities to the members/volunteers to showcase their talents. (PNA)
