MANILA -- Retail food price increases in the National Capital Region eased up in April, based on latest data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on May 31.

The rise in the general retail price index (GRPI) for food in the NCR slowed down to 5.2 percent in April 2018 from 7.1 percent in April 2017.

The PSA defines GRPI as a statistical measure of changes in prices, at which, retailers dispose of their goods to consumers or end-users relative to a base year.

Month-on-month, the food price index fell by 0.6 percent in April from March 2018 due to lower prices of chicken, eggs, milk, fish,
corn, fruits, tubers, root crops, legumes, and margarine.

Last year, the March-April price index difference inched up 0.1 percent. (PNA)
