DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental – A business leader in Central Visayas on Monday expressed optimism over the enactment of Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, which is intended to ease businessmens' burden over bureaucracy.
Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) regional governor Edward Du said the new law will greatly expedite the transactions of business proprietors with government.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed it into law last week to amend RA 9485 or the Anti-Red Tape Law of 2007, which was widely seen as lacking in teeth to address businessmens' complains over the excessively slow processing of permits and licenses. “It came at a time when we were fighting it out with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the delay in the renewal of licenses for two local producers,” Du pointed out.
He was referring to the renewal of the License to Operate (LTO) and the Certification of Product Registration (CPR)” of two local MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) which he identified as Sukang Tisoy owned by Danilo Cabahug and Raw Brown Exports owned by Florian Alcantara.
Meanwhile, Du is hopeful that the FDA will put up a regional office to cater to the countless MSMEs who are currently required to apply for the necessary business permits with the agency’s main office.
“There are at least three million MSMEs in the Philippines, including the underground and these are the ones creating jobs for the people. Hopefully, with the new anti-red tape law government agencies will make transactions with the public easier and faster," Du said. (PNA)
