SAMAL, Bataan -- The opening of classes in this province went on smoothly on Monday with no major problems reported, said the division office of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Balanga City.

Dr. Milagros Peñaflor, chief of Curriculum Implementation Division of the Department of Education, said their supervisors were on the field and regularly reporting.

“As of now, there are no problems,” she said.

In some public elementary schools here, parents, mostly mothers, eagerly accompanied their children already in complete uniform with school bags filled with notebooks and other school materials.

Most of the children enrolled in the South Central School in Samal, Bataan were ready for their 7 a.m. classes as early as 5:30 a.m.

“Handang-handa na po (I am ready),” said Kris Aeron Angel, 8 years old in Grade 3, when asked how prepared he was for his first day in school.

Angel proudly showed his notebooks.

“Gusto ko po makapagtapos ng pag-aaral para matupad lahat ng pangarap ko ( I want to finish my studies for the fulfillment of all my dreams),” the little boy said.

Peñaflor said the classroom–pupil ratio last year was 1:35, but she could not yet give the details for this school year until all enrollment data had already been submitted. (PNA)
