2 killed, 31 injured in Sibugay highway collision

ZAMBOANGA CITY--Two people were killed while 31 others were wounded in a mishap over the weekend in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 information officer, identified the two fatalities as Rex Excosio, 29, and Emeryl Laurice Baird, 29, both of this city.

Two of the 31 wounded, who were passengers of the bus that figured in the mishap, were hospitalized. They were identified as Ana Patricia Alterado, 19 and Lolita Alterado.

The driver, Gene Roso, 48, and the other passengers sustained minor injuries during the incident that occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday in Purok 2, Barangay Upper Tungawan, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez said Excosio was driving a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with Baird aboard for Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay from this city when they collided in a curved road with an incoming passenger bus of the Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc.

She said the SUV was wrecked while the bus fell on its side brought about by the impact of the collision.

She said Excosio and Baird were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (PNA)
