BATANGAS CITY – Residents in the only geographically isolated island town of Tingloy in Batangas province heaved a sigh of relief on Monday when they finally learned that the town government acquired, through donation, a water filtration machine that ensures potable and safe drinking water for the island inhabitants.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-Calabarzon turned over the Water Filtration Machine for the Island Municipality of Tingloy, through Governor Hermilando Mandanas, at the Marble Terrace at the Provincial Capitol, Batangas City last Friday (June 8).

OCD Calabarzon Regional Director Olivia M. Luces turned over the water filtration machine following the machine’s water purification process demonstration before the Governor, Capitol officials and Tingloy Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) head Herbert Dumaoal.

“Ang Munisipalidad ng Tingloy ang nag-iisang bayan sa lalawigan ng Batangas na isang isla, bukod sa Isla Verde na parte ng Batangas City (the municipality of Tingloy is the only island town in the province of Batangas, besides Verde Island which is part of Batangas City),” Mandanas said after the machine demonstration and turnover rites.

Mandanas said that the filtration machine would be of great help to Tingloy island inhabitants, who are in dire need of clean drinking water supply as the precious resource is scarce in the island-town.

In most cases, the islanders have to fetch potable and safe drinking water using motorized bancas and boats from the Batangas mainland for their consumption.

According to the OCD, the Calabarzon Region is the first recipient of the Water Filtration Machine, especially among geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs).

With the new water filtration machine, the water will undergo a three-stage filtration system to remove solid particles from raw water sources such as rain, river, lake, water drainage, sea water and brackish water.

The machine could also process around 3,000 gallons of water per day and is equipped with a 2 horsepower pressure pump.

Members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and some OCD uniformed reservists witnessed the demonstration and turn-over rites. (PNA)
