CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -- More than 478 jobseekers were close to being hired during the Kalayaan 2018 Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) job and business fair held by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Tarlac City.

DOLE Regional Director Zenaida Angara-Campita said Wednesday that based on the preliminary report from the DOLE office in Tarlac, some 573 jobseekers flocked to the fair held at the Metro Town Mall on Tuesday.

Campita said the “near-hires” only needed to fulfill a few more requirements to get hired.

“Our near-hires are considered hired but still need to submit additional or lacking requirements, or may need to undergo further interviews or tests/exams to fully qualify for the job,” she said.

“Quite a number of our jobseekers who applied for various positions in different companies were considered near-hires in either one or more jobs they applied for. This is good news because it gives them more opportunities to get hired,” Campita added.

DOLE Tarlac head Aurita Laxamana said the labor department will have a month-long monitoring on the statuses of near-hires, in coordination with participating employers.

At least 35 employers offered 3,366 vacancies for local employment, while three recruitment agencies licensed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration offered 300 jobs for overseas employment.

Campita further said the job and business fair adopted the TNK concept forged by the DOLE and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The DTI facilitated a perfume-making seminar for 31 individuals, some of whom were walk-ins, as well as business counseling for would-be entrepreneurs.

The trade department also invited some 21 micro, small and medium enterprises from different parts of Tarlac province to showcase and sell their respective products.

In an interview with the local media, Campita commended and thanked the DOLE’s program partners for their support in this year’s Kalayaan TNK job and business fair.

The Kalayaan 2018 TNK Job and Business Fair highlighted the 120th Independence Day celebration, with the theme “Pagbabagong Ipinaglalaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.” (PNA)
