BIÑAN CITY, Laguna -- For the second time this season, a match involving Global Cebu and Kaya Iloilo was called off.

This time, however, the weather intervened.

The Philippines Football League (PFL) announced just 25 minutes prior to the supposed 3 p.m. kickoff that the scheduled Cebu-Iloilo game on Wednesday at the Biñan Football Stadium has been postponed.

"The match between Global Cebu FC and Kaya FC-Iloilo scheduled for this afternoon at the Biñan Football Stadium has been cancelled due to pitch condition," the league said in a statement.

About the future of the match, the PFL added, "the status of the match shall be advised pending full report from the match official and Global Cebu FC."

Cebu, the home team for the match, has been using the said venue as its alternate home turf.

However, inclement weather has been rampant not just here but also in the entirety of Laguna and its neighboring provinces since last week due to the southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by typhoon "Domeng".

In fact, Stallion Laguna, the owner of the venue, relegated its practices for the past two days to light drills due to the said stadium getting soaked in water due to rain.

In its weather forecast issued 2 p.m. Wednesday, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Laguna will experience light to moderate rainshowers with occasional heavy downpours within the next three hours. (PNA)
