BAGUIO CITY -- The AASENSO Partylist has allotted PHP8 million scholarship to 400 indigent high school graduates in the Cordillera, who want to enroll in technical-vocational courses.

Lawyer Isagani Nerez, AASENSO national chairman, said his group has set aside funds for about 5,000 beneficiaries nationwide.

Nerez said the scholarship is in support of President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign urging young Filipinos who want to acquire skills to take up technical and vocational courses offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

He said the 400 scholarships can be availed of by qualified high school graduates in Baguio and the other provinces in the Cordillera who want to study courses in TESDA or in schools accredited by the agency.

He said they will be issuing vouchers to qualified students, which they can use to take up their desired technical-vocational courses in TESDA or its accredited school.

The TESDA training school in Loakan road here offers 29 courses while the Baguio School of Arts and Trade managed by the city government has 28 courses.

The Baguio School of Business and Technology (BSBT) and the King’s College in La Trinidad, Benguet are just some of the schools where qualified beneficiaries can enroll.

Nerez said AASENSO Partylist aims to help poor members of the community to have skills and be qualified as skilled workers, be able to get a job and improve their living condition.

He added that their program also targets Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), particularly the domestic helpers.

He said that President Duterte has been encouraging OFWs to return home for good, look for a job and be with their families.

Nerez said this is the second year the Partylist is implementing the program that will give way for the improvement of the lives of the poor, who are interested to have better future.

Nerez said classes will start on the first week of July.

He urged interested and qualified applicants for the scholarship to visit the AASENSO party-list national headquarters at Camdas Subdivision in this city, in front of Mt. Carmel Montessori to receive their vouchers. (PNA)
