ILOILO CITY -- The family of Angelo Claveria is hoping to get updates regarding the investigation into his death in South Korea during the visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte here on June 20.

Duterte is expected to arrive in Iloilo in the afternoon of June 20. He will first distribute 3,772 certificates of land ownership awards to 2,314 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Western Visayas at the Cabatuan covered gym which is situated more or less 100 meters away from the house of the Claverias.

In a phone interview, Jeanette Claveria, younger sibling of Angelo working in Bahrian, said they hoped to have an audience or the concern be mentioned in a media interaction with the President.

“We are still waiting for justice for our brother,” she said.

She said after the June 3 visit of President Duterte to South Korea, they haven’t received any update from the Philippine Embassy.

Jeanette said she only read from a Korean newspaper that the prime suspect in the killing of his brother has been identified. Also, the news said that Korean authorities are seeking the help of the Philippine National Police and the Interpol for the arrest of the suspect.

Mayette, the victim’s elder sister, visited the DFA Iloilo consular office on Tuesday to get updates but failed.

“We are hoping that we can hear official updates during the visit of President Duterte,” she said.

She recalled that Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Lawrence Christopher “Bong” Go assured their family of support as they sought justice for Angelo when he visited his wake in Cabatuan last May 27.

She added that Jeanette texted Go two days ago and the latter said he will try to make way for them to meet the President.

The skeletal remains of 34-year-old Angelo were found inside a water purifier tank in South Korea two years after he last communicated with his family on Christmas Eve of 2015.

He worked as a factory worker in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. (PNA)
