ILOILO CITY -- The Philippine Councilors League (PCL) is eyeing the establishment of a hotel in Metro Manila as its first-ever project.

This was announced by PCL National President Councilor Luis “Chavit” Singson in his speech Wednesday night at the opening of their national convention in this city.

A total of 3,000 councilors from all over the country attended the three-day convention, which started on Wednesday.

“We are saving for our project. A hotel in Manila that is decent, beautiful and with amenities where all councilors are welcome to stay,” Singson said.

He said that they will use the funds that they have gathered during their previous conventions.

He said they have gathered PHP11.5 million in fund during their first ever convention in Bacolod City.

In Davao City meanwhile, they have gathered PHP6.2 million; Vigan City, PHP15.9 million; and in Subic with PHP9.2 million.

But Singson said that they are still waiting for the land commitment covering the area the facility will be built.

Singson noted that they were now able to gather funds from their convention due to the change in PCL brought by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“When you became President, we followed your program of eliminating graft and corruption, that we should practice accountability and transparency. I would like to inform you that PCL has now changed,” Singson told President Rodrigo Duterte who graced their convention in this city.

Also, Singson expressed his support to the federal form of government being pushed by President Duterte.

Iloilo is hosting this year's convention with the theme “Education and Technology: The Power Key to Advanced Skills in Local Legislation and Transformation of Character and Efficiency in Public Service”.

The event includes the 2018 2nd Quarterly National Executive Officers, National Board Meeting and 5th Series of Continuing Local Legislative Education Program. (PNA)
