ZAMBOANGA CITY--Three elderly residents of this city on Thursday received PHP100,000 as a “centenarian gift” from the national government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD regional information officer, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that two of the recipients personally received the centenarian gift while the incentive for the third one, who had already died, was given to the family.

Salvador said one of the living recipients and the family of the posthumous beneficiary received the centenarian gift at the City Hall, which was witnessed by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and other officials of the DSWD and the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

He said the other living beneficiary received the gift at the field office of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs in Barangay Ayala.

The recipients, aged at least 100 years, also received a letter of felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte, aside from the cash gift.

The grant of the centenarian gift is pursuant to Republic Act No. 10868, or the “Centenarians Act of 2016”. (PNA)
