MANILA -- Local carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) will implement stricter security screening of powder-like substances in hand-carried baggage of passengers bound for Guam starting June 30, Saturday.
CEB spokesperson Charo Lagamon disclosed this Friday, stressing that the airline may confiscate or dispose powder-like substances weighing 12 ounces or more.
"It's a new US Homeland security rule (that we are following). Guam is a US territory," Lagamon told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
Sugar, ground coffee, flour, spices, milk, cosmetics and ashes are among the powdery-like substances banned, the airline said.
However, baby formula, medically-prescribed substances, human remains (ashes) and duty free purchases of powder-like substances (in Security Tamper Evident Bags), provided that the containers for these are sealed and are cleared by security screening, are exempted from this rule.
Passengers should expect additional screening, and are thus advised to allow ample time and arrive at the airport at least three hours before the flight schedule.
They are also advised to put the powder-like substances in their check-in baggage to avoid inconvenience. (PNA)
