BACOLOD CITY -- The average monthly crime rate in Negros Occidental has decreased by 65.05 percent in the first six months of 2018 as a result of intensive police operations.
Data released by the provincial police on Thursday showed that from January to June last year, an average of 27.11 crimes were recorded every month, compared to only 9.48 for the same period this year.
“Our latest data gathered in relation to eight focus crimes shows a dramatic decrease from January to June of 2018 compared to January to June 2017 due to intensified operations, visibility, and police presence in the community,” stated the report of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headed by Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil.
The eight focus crimes include physical injury, theft, murder, rape, robbery, homicide, motornapping and carnapping.
In the first half of the year, physical injury decreased by 66.29 percent -- from 626 cases last year to 211 this year; theft, by 77.25 percent -- from 567 to 129; murder, by 5.88 percent -- from 102 to 96; rape, by 49.28 percent -- from 138 to 70; robbery, by 8.16 percent -- from 266 to 262; homicide, by 76.69 percent -- from 249 to 45; motornapping, by 58.33 percent -- from 36 to 15; and carnapping, by 100 percent -- from one to none.
During the period, the Negros Occidental police registered a crime clearance efficiency of 77.44 percent, higher by 6.61 percent compared to the previous year’s first half record of 70.83 percent.
“The effectivity of police operations in the community has greatly affected the decrease in crime volume thus, providing increase in the performance rate of police operatives conducting beat patrol and police operations with cooperation from support groups and force multipliers,” the provincial police said in the report.
