ZAMBOANGA CITY--Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives arrested an alleged member of a drug syndicate in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga Sibugay, an official said Saturday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) information officer, identified the arrested suspect as Albert Tadeo, who works as a community affairs officer for the provincial government.

Galvez said Tadeo, 36, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Purok Gumamela, Barangay Taway, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay at about 8:40 p.m. Friday. Based on the list of the PDEA, Tadeo is allegedly a member of a drug syndicate known as the Matiz Group.

Seized from the suspect’s possessions were more or less .8 gram of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu”, packed in three plastic sachets worth PHP5,400, and PHP1,000 in marked money, Galvez said.

She said the suspect will be charged with violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
